Terms of Service
Last updated: August 10, 2026. This page explains what you're agreeing to when you claim or bid on a tile. It's written in plain language on purpose — for the short version, see the How It Works and FAQ pages.

What TileTakeover is
TileTakeover is a public board of tiles. Anyone can claim an open tile, and any tile — owned or not — can be taken over by a higher bid, following the pricing rules described on How It Works.
Who can use this site
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to place a bid. You must also have the legal right to use whatever payment method you check out with.
No accounts
You never create an account or a password to bid. A win is tied to the name and email you provide at checkout, plus a display name you choose to be shown publicly.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. The price shown on the board is exactly what we receive; sales tax and card processing fees are added on top at checkout and charged to you separately.
Ownership and the 24-hour lock
When you submit a bid, you're submitting your bid amount, display name, image, and link together for review — nothing is charged yet. If your submission is approved, payment is collected at that point, your tile goes live immediately, and it's locked for 24 hours so nobody can outbid you during that window. If your submission is not approved, you are not charged. After the lock expires, the tile remains yours until someone places a qualifying higher bid, at which point ownership transfers to them the same way it transferred to you.
Refunds
All sales are final, with one exception: confirmed fraudulent use of a payment method (someone using a card without the cardholder's authorization). That situation is handled through Stripe's standard dispute and chargeback process, the same way any card fraud claim is handled — it is not a refund request made to us. Outside of that one case, we do not offer refunds, including if a tile is later taken over by another bidder or if you change your mind after winning. If your submission is instead rejected during review, you were never charged in the first place, so there is nothing to refund.
Your content (images and links)
When you place a bid, you submit an image and a link together with it, to be shown on the tile if your bid is approved. By submitting content, you confirm that you own it or otherwise have the right to use and display it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights.
Every image is reviewed before it goes live. We may reject, remove, or decline to display any image or link, at any time, for any reason — including but not limited to content that is illegal, infringing, sexually explicit, hateful, deceptive, or that links to malware, phishing, or scam pages. Rejection or removal of content does not entitle you to a refund; see the Refunds section above.
Suspending or removing a tile
If a tile's content violates these terms, we may remove the image and link and revert the tile to showing no image, without removing your ownership of the tile itself, or in serious cases, reassign the tile. We'll always try the lighter option first.
The site is provided "as is"
We work to keep the board accurate and available, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available. To the extent allowed by law, TileTakeover is provided without warranties of any kind.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, TileTakeover and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the tile(s) involved in that claim.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site evolves. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent change. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE/JURISDICTION PLACEHOLDER], without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
