How It Works

TileTakeover is a 25×25 board of 625 tiles. Anyone can buy an unowned tile, and any tile — owned or not — can be taken over by a higher bid.

Buying an unowned tile

The opening bid on any unowned tile is $1.00. All bids are whole dollars — there are never any cents involved.

Taking over an owned tile

Once a tile has an owner, the next bid must be at least the larger of 20% more than the current bid, or $1.00 more than the current bid — whichever is bigger — rounded up to the next whole dollar.

Current bid Minimum next bid
$1.00 $2.00
$8.00 $10.00
$25.00 $30.00
$100.00 $120.00

Every tile's price is calculated on its own — there's no site-wide minimum beyond the $1.00 opening bid.

Winning a tile

Ownership transfers immediately once your bid succeeds, and that tile is locked for 24 hours — nobody can outbid you during that window. After the lock expires, the tile stays yours indefinitely, until someone else outbids you.

Adding your image and link

Once you own a tile, you can upload an image and a link for it. Every uploaded image is reviewed before it appears publicly, to keep the board clean.

Fees and taxes

The prices shown on the board are exactly what the site receives. Sales tax and payment processing fees are added on top at checkout and charged to you separately — they're never taken out of the bid amount itself.

No account needed

You never need to create an account or log in to bid on a tile. Checkout is handled through Stripe using just your name and email.

Refunds

All sales are final. Because winning a bid guarantees you 24 hours of locked, uncontested display, refunds are not offered.
